Crewed Boat
The Lagoon 620 is a firm favorite among our customers for good reason. If you are looking to replicate the hotel room experience on your sailing vacation, then this is the yacht for you. This 62ft catamaran features so much interior space and feels so luxurious, you’ll almost forget you are floating on the water.
That feeling of endless space isn’t just restricted to the inside of the Lagoon 620, but extends to above the deck too. You’ll never feel on top of your fellow guests on a Lagoon 620. There are so many areas to choose to escape to for some peace and quiet and it’s ideal for a luxury crewed charter.
Spending a week on the Lagoon 620 is easy when you’re surrounded by such sumptuous comfort, even when cruising for longer stretches. There’s a dedicated area for sunbathing, dining and lounging and the transition from day to night can be done with such ease.
Lagoon 620 cabin configuration
Typically the Lagoon 620 sleeps 12 with a layout of six queen-sized staterooms with side-access beds and plenty of storage space. Each cabin has its own private bathroom with a shower, wash basin and toilet. The cabins are in the catamaran’s huge hulls and are cleverly designed so they fill the cabins with natural light. The yacht has such a fantastic ambiance and the attention to detail really makes the Lagoon 620 a special yacht.
Space to relax in comfort
The Lagoon 620 has been designed for socializing with plenty of space to gather with your loved ones and chat, dine or enjoy a cocktail together. You can be together without feeling crowded but there are plenty of nooks to get away from everyone too.
The saloon and cockpit windows fill the space with light and it’s this characteristic that the Lagoon 620 is famous for. The galley kitchen is impressive and the saloon offers comfort if you want to rest from the midday sun or enjoy the air-conditioning.
Get a fantastic view up on the flybridge where you can relax. The guest lounge area is so roomy and doesn’t encroach on the crew. It’s a great place to spot upcoming land, look for marine life or take a break from the sun under the bimini sunshade.
You can shelter from the sun under the extended saloon roof, which is perfect for dining or relaxing with a book on the day bed. Sun lovers can head to the Lagoon 620’s extensive sun deck at the front and the trampolines.
Making the most of a wonderful swimming or snorkeling spot is easy – you can jump right in using the laddered platform at the rear. Afterward, you can shower off the salt with the shower on deck.
Cruising in Mahe
Seychelles is situated in a balmy, relatively calm swath of the Indian Ocean covering approximately 150,000 square miles, though a Seychelles charter vacation focuses on the main Inner Islands, all of which are close together, making for easy passages between them. In this part of the world, the annual monsoon influences the weather and wind direction. The northwest monsoon begins in November, ushering in northwesterly winds and more rain than typically falls from May through October when the winds shift more to the southeast beginning in April. Regardless of the season, wind velocities average 10 to 20 knots, and the temperature ranges from 82°F to 86°F.
Wind-driven currents switch direction with the seasonal winds and are typically just over one knot. However, in certain locations, such as in narrow channels between islands, the current can be much stronger. The tidal range runs from 4.5 to 5.9 feet. Like wind-driven currents, tidal currents can be swift in narrow channels. A Seychelles cruising vacation is well within the reach of captains confident in basic coastal navigation.
Mahe Highlights
A Seychelles yacht charter unfolds in an exotic, less-traveled part of the world, which is what makes cruising Seychelles so appealing. Small, secluded coves fringed with majestic palms set back from pristine white-sand beaches indent many of the islands and just offshore are coral reefs resplendent in hues of brown, orange, green, and blue. Half of Seychelles is set aside as a natural preserve to protect the rare birds – the Seychelles bulbul, black parrot, and fruit pigeon, to name a few – and giant tortoises that live nowhere else but in the Pacific’s Galapagos Islands. The natural wonders are enough to make any Seychelles yacht cruising vacation memorable. The seaside resorts, boutiques, and fine restaurants found on some of the Inner Islands add a dash of luxury to the Seychelles experience.
General Conditions
The archipelago, which rarely experiences really strong winds, is under the influence of a highly distinctive system consisting of two monsoons separated by a month of variable weather: the inter-season. From May to October, almost constant winds blow south-easterly with clear skies. The winds drop in November and give way to north-westerly bringing heavy rain clouds. The heaviest rainfall is in January and can reach 370mm/4.5 in. The south-easterly wind pattern returns in April. In between these two periods, there are two short periods of flat calms or light winds. April and May are the sunniest months; however, the cloudiest months still manage a daily average of 5.30 hours of sun. These slight climate changes barely affect the temperature which remains at a steady 28°- 30°C (82°-86°F) and the level of humidity which is close to 80% year around. In Seychelles, the weather is constantly changing. Neither rain nor sun ever become set for long periods.
The entire Seychelles area is subject to currents that develop with the monsoon.
The NW monsoon gives rise to a current to the East from December to April. Its average speed is 1.5 Knots, though speeds of 4 knots have been recorded locally. In April the current reverses. From June to September, currents flow westwards at a regular rate of 1.2 Knots but passages through flats can increase the speed to approximately 4 Knots. The return to currents flowing east takes place in December.
SEYCHELLES ITINERARY
Day 1: Head for Vallée de Mai in Baie Ste Anne, a valley protected by UNESCO with an enchanting path that winds through the enormous palm leaves of the famous coco de mer. Wherever you look, the foliage seems to go on and on. Spend the night anchoring in Baie Ste Anne.
Day 2: Sail to St. Pierre islet, a mass of rounded rocks crowned with a clump of tall palms swaying gently in the wind. This is typical and superb Seychelles scenery, photographed on countless occasions and printed a million times in tourism magazines. It’s also an excellent spot for snorkeling with magnificent underwater scenery. Sail onto Curieuse and stop in Anse san José. Say hello to the Aldabra giant tortoises at Curieuse, a protected island and bio-reserve. Take a 45-minute walk into the mangrove and “coco fesse” trees, which leads you to the other side of the island, where there is a nice beach and a small but interesting museum.
Day 3: Sail to Cousin Island, which is a nature reserve and bird sanctuary with rare species and an important breeding site for Hawksbill turtles. This small island, just 800 meters in diameter, can be visited from Monday to Friday in the mornings. During the season of south-easterly winds, the island is a nesting site for 80,000 breeding pairs of lesser noddies. Go back to Baie Ste Anne for the night.
Day 4: Sail to La Digue, possibly the most beautiful island in Seychelles. Anchor in Petite or Grande Anse, on La Digue’s southeast coast. It’s the third largest inhabited island but isn’t overrun with tourists. The island is car-free and locals use ox and carts. Get around by bike and explore winding trails under tall palm trees, houses with palm-thatched roofs, copra factories, fine white sand beaches, and large polished rocks.
Day 5: Sail around the isles of Marianne and Félicité and anchor on the west coast of Grande Soeur for lunch. Experience the unforgettable snorkeling at Coco Island, just 7km north of La Digue, which is made of large rocks with strange regular stripes carved by the sea. The area has large arborescent corals where thousands of tropical fish swim in front of narrow breaks and dark caverns. Make for Curieuse and anchor for the night in Laramie Bay, on the east coast, or head back to Baie Ste Anne if you need supplies.
Day 6: Anchor west of Grande Soeur, a gorgeous island with two steep and rocky hillocks, linked together by low-lying land and a beautiful beach. This is a resort island and the beach is closed to non-resort guests at the weekend. You’ll find fantastic snorkeling on the west coast where you can see marine turtles. Head back to Baie Ste Anne for the night.
Day 7: Check out at the base.
